AGM
Our AGM was held on Friday night in the Pairc with around 30 members in attendance. The meeting took the usual format with an excellent 73 page report containing a full review of the clubs activities over the year produced by our Rúnaí Niall Gormley. The report is an encyclopaedic review of the year and well worth a read for any members who were not able to attend. If any members would like a copy please reach out.
A review of last years minutes along with the secretaries address was followed by a review of our club finances provided by Cisteoir Raymond McHugh who gave a detailed report on last years activities.
Our Cathaoirleach Ruairi Sullivan then completed his chairman’s address and review of the season paying special attention and thanks to all those volunteers and players who had gone above and beyond over the season.
After the reports it was time for the election of officers with Diarmaid Keegan and Brid McGovern stepping down from the executive after many years of hard work they were thanked by all those in attendance for all their support in the past.
Other changes saw club stalwart John Harte elected to Uachtarán while Sean O’Suilleabhain who nominated John moved to vice President.
We welcomed four new members to the executive with Mark Dolan ,Adrian Murphy, Lisa Maguire and Leighanne Flynn all stepping into assist the club.

Scor finals
In 1984, a few years ago, (only 40), a group of members from the club decided to enter a novelty act in Scor mainly because it was the Centenary of the founding of the GAA. This group went on to win the All Ireland Scor title that year, the clubs first, with Michael Fanning, Tommy Moran, Madge Murphy, Raymond McHugh and mé féin. It was the start of memorable times in the novelty act section. On the 7th of December our Scor na nOg group of Niamh Brennan, Tom Dillon, Eabha McCaffrey, Nate Joubert, ,Seimi Barry Murphy, Bobby Sullivan, Connie Dolan, and Sofia Sullivan, will be keeping up with tradition by performing in the novelty act section for the club in Tubbercurry in the Connacht Final of Scor Na nOg. Grandparents and parents of some of this bunch, performed frequently down the years in novelty act and won 6 All Ireland titles in Scor Sinsear and 3 in Scor na nOg. We also have a set dance group in the Connacht final and we wish all these young performers the best of luck on 7th December.

Division one League final
A tough day on Saturday for our Ladies team as they went down by a point to Manor in the division one league final. The Ladies put in a tremendous effort on the day and were winning by 2:03 to 0:05 at half time. In the second half we added one goal and two point while Manor added 12 points with some fine long-range shooting from the Manor forwards in the last 10 minutes doing the damage. A big thank you to all the ladies and the management team led by Gavin Brennan, they have put in a magnificent effort over the course of this long season and will be disappointed not to end with some silverware.

County Final Reply
A word of thanks
To the Ballinamore players and supporters as they reflect on today’s loss it can be a difficult pill to swallow. I know there is not much comfort to the fact that we were part of possibly one of the greatest finals in living memory, not just in Leitrim, but the length and breadth of Ireland. A match that I am sure will have many a superlative written about it in the coming days. For those neutrals that watched last week’s match on TG4 and waxed lyrical about the skill on show in Leitrim they have certainly missed out on a truly magnificent game today, one that had it all.
Hopefully today’s game proves that football in Leitrim is alive and well and there should be a multitude of prospective managers knocking on the county door hoping to manage our county team.
As the saying goes there can be only one winner and today it was Mohill that came out on top. Over 2 matches , 140 minutes of battling skillful football nothing could seperate the two teams and we headed to penalties. Some say penalties can be a cruel way to end a game, but that was what was needed today to seperate these great teams. It takes a special kind of bravery to take a penalty at any time let alone a county final and fair play to each of those players that was brave enough to stand up and take on that responsibility we salute you.
As i walked across the pitch at the end it was difficult not to shed a tear for our players that had worked so hard and come so close at the end. But there can be only one winner and today it’s Mohill that make history and are worthy county champions.
As a Ballinamore fan, the pain of a loss is profound. But the pride in our team’s performance and the spirit they displayed is undeniable. We are lucky to have a great group of players and hopefully they can come back again.
It was a long day and dare say it’s been a long few weeks for the club with Trojan work being done in the background by a small team of volunteers to make sure the matches went well and that the facilities were in good shape to host these finals.
As the fans left our stewards and club mates were working away getting the ground back into shape for another county final tomorrow, we might have had a bit more pep in our step had we won but the work still has to be done.
So to our players a big thank you for the commitment and hard work, we are proud of you all.
To that band of hard working club mates, that team in the background that does the hard work of the pitch we say a big thank you and we will see you in the morning !
To all our fans and supporters you did us proud
To Mohill, enjoy the celebrations !
Michael McTague

Senior Final
The flags and bunting will stay in place for another week after Sundays epic final draw with Mohill as we all wait for the replay this Saturday at 16:00 and another opportunity to see these great teams do battle.
Sunday was a wonderful occasion for the club as we had the honour of playing and hosting the county final. It was an opportunity to showcase the skill level of Leitrim football to a wider audience as the game was televised by TG4 and to also showcase our facilities and ability to host a major event. That the clouds and rain lifted and the sun shone helped highlight that it doesn’t always rain in Leitrim, an added bonus.
As an occasion a county final is hard bet for any club it brings friends and families together with many returning to Mohill and Ballinamore for the weekend to see their team in action. Walking around Ballinamore on Saturday and at the ground on Sunday it was clear to see the handshakes and hugs as people met up for the first time in an age brought together by football. Many will be waking up this morning booking flights, trains, holidays from work and the like for the same again next week and hopefully another special occasion.
As a club we would like to thank our players and management team for the hard work and commitment and wish them well for next Saturday. To the team behind the team we want to say a massive thank you for the hard work in preparing the grounds, stewarding, cleaning, making sandwiches and just being there, to our friends in Corlough GAA who also came to help we also say a big thank you.
To the 2000 people that came to the pairc on Sunday will see you all next week
Ladies relegation final
A strong performance by the ladies team secured our position in the Senior championship for another year after we defeated St Brigids on Sunday morningin the relegation final.
A big well done to the the players and management team and special thanks to our freinds in Corlough GAA for hosting the game at their fantastic pitch
50/50 draw result
Huge congratulations to Darren Maxwell, our senior goalkeeper, and latest 50:50 draw winner, scooping an incredible €𝟐,𝟓𝟐𝟎! And a big shoutout to 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐲 (𝐒𝐧𝐫), who won €𝟏𝟎𝟎 in our Auto-Renew draw!

Championship Semi Finals
It was a fantastic occasion on Saturday as we hosted the county championship semi-finals in the pairc with Fenagh first up against Mohill followed by the Ballinamore match versus St Marys.
It was a great day to be able to showcase our facilities with a big crowed in attendance for both games. We must say a special thank you to the 40 or so people that helped in the background stewarding, running the shops. Parking and ticket selling without the support of our club mates we would not be able to facilitate such an occasion.
The hard work in preparing the grounds and hosting the games was all worthwhile as we got to see the lads put in a powerful performance to secure a place in the county final which will take place on home turf on the 6th of October ! A big well done to all the team and the background staff on a fantastic victory.

Under 12 Girls
Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins faced Allen Gaels in the division 2 Shield Final on Saturday in Kiltubrid. Having drawn in their previous meeting it was obvious this was going to be a tight affair.
Some great team work and link up play saw Ballinamore take an early lead. However, Allen Gaels didn’t back down and fought hard to level the match at the end of the third quarter.
With all to play for both sides gave it their all for the final ten minutes. Fortunately for Ballinamore they came out on top with a one point victory.
This was a huge team effort from every single member of the panel including the girls who picked up injuries throughout the year.
The fine displays of teamwork, support play, defending and classy scoring from both sides certainly ensures the future of Leitrim Ladies football is in safe hands.

Goodbye for now and Goodluck
On Saturday we said goodbye for now to Sebastian Wojciuch one of our u15 players as he and his family moved to Poland. Seba has played for us since he was 6 years old representing the club at u9, u11, u13 and u15, he has played in goals saving penalties and this year played as corner forward scoring 4 goals in one match. Seba is a wonderful young man who was a big part of the sports scene in Ballinamore not just in GAA with Ballinamore and MacDiarmada Gaels but also playing soccer with AbbeyRovers where he won an under 12 league and u14 shield. Seba was also in goals for the Ballinamore schools’ teams that won the cumman na mbunscol final for the first time since 2009. Senior Men
A great win for the lads on Saturday against Fenagh at home in the Connacht championship. There was a massive attendance in the pairc with a great game on display for everyone in attendance. It was a very tight first half with the lead swapping on 5 occasions before half time with a Wayne McKeon point and a Paul Honeyman goal in the 25th minute giving us a 2:08 to 1:09 lead. In the second half Fenagh came out strong adding three points to lead before Ballinamore pulled a couple back through Michael McKiernan to level again. As with the first half the lead was to change on a number of occasions. With 24 mins gone of the second half we were awarded a penalty after Dean was pulled down and unfortunately had to go off injured. Paul Honeyman took the penalty and put it over the bar for a point which after an earlier point from Michael left us up by 2 points. Peter Reynolds was to add the next score in the 31st minute to leave us three ahead and hopefully save. Fenagh pushed on in injury time to add the last two scores of the game but the lads held out strongly to win by a point.
The next round of Senior Championship vs Dromahair on Saturday @ 7pm in Ballinamore.
With the Junior B Championship vs Leitrim Gaels on Sunday @ 1pm in Leitrim Village.
50th Anniversary celebration
On Saturday night we held the 50th Anniversary celebration of our historic Minor Football Championship winning team from 1974. It was a great night for these players and their families to all meet up and reminisce about the great times of the past and to share anecdotes and stories. A big thank you to Gunter Logan the driving force in organising the night and everyone else that helped out at this great occasion. There was an excellent pamphlet reminding everyone of the game produced and handed out on the night and this along with a lovely medal was presented to the players. There was special mention of the players who have sadly passed and it was fitting that their families were in attendance to share n the occasion. Special thanks to everyone that helped in anyway.

In the second half it was a sluggish start by both teams with no scores and 15 mins gone before we added the first with Michael McKiernan shooting over to lead 0:10 to 0:01, after this Carrigallen added three scores with out reply to the cut the deficit before Cathal added a point to make it 0:11 to 0:04, Carrigallen would add two further points to leave the final score 0:11 to 0:06. Leitrim Ladies
Another exciting day in the pairc on Sunday watching the Leitrim ladies in the All-Ireland quarter finals against Roscommon.
It was a great occasion with a massive crowd in attendance helping to cheer the ladies on to victory, it was a game full of excitement and flowing football and a credit to both sets of players and a great advertisement for ladies football.
It was also a great day for our u8 and u10 girls who did a guard of honour for both teams and also took part in a half time exhibition games along with 7 other teams from across the county. It was great to have all these young players in the stand and certainly added to the atmosphere with chants of “Up Leitrim” reverberating all around.
Special congrats to our own club mates Laura O’Dowd and Mollie Murphy - and all the Leitrim Ladies on the win and for them taking time at the end of the game to celebrate and take pictures with all the young girls, they are fantastic role models to have and will help the game continue to develop.

A special Thank you to all our stewards for helping to make things run so smoothly - and thanks also to the team taking care of refreshments in the Club rooms & stand, a great all-round club effort !!

Another good win for the lads in the division one league on Saturday evening when we played St Marys in the pairc.
It was a tight game with us going in a point up at half time leading by 0.07 to 0.06. It was always looking like the team to score the first goal would win the match and it arrived in the second half after a great interception from James Honeyman led to a fast counterattack and ended with Dean McGovern scoring a great goal. Dean added a couple of quick points after this, and we ran out deserved winners. Final score was 1:12 to 0.09.
The win leaves us top on score difference on 8 points along with St Marys and Mohill. Next Game is the 13th of July versus Carrigallen.

Dinner Dance
Special thanks to everyone that attended our Dinner Dance , it was a fantastic evening celebrating our Ladies teams with all the players and management teams receiving their medals and mementoes of an excellent and historical year for the club.
On the night there were a number of additional and special awards presented with the Senior and Junior player of the year awards as voted for by the players themselves. It was no surprise to those in attendance when it was announced Roisin McHugh as the Senior Player of the year with a massive cheer as Roisin received her well-deserved award. There was an equally impressive cheer on the night as the Junior player of the year award was announced with Ciara O’Dowd stepping up to collect her award to rapturous applause, two more deserving winners you would never meet.
There were awards on the night also for some of our Mna Le Cheile Ladies with the management team of Colm Brennan and Adrian Murphy presenting the player of the year and players player of the year awards. Debbie Flynn was the deserving recipient of the Players player of the year with the equally deserving Lisa Gillheaney named player of the year.
Overall, it was fantastic as a club to be able to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our ladies teams and see them receive their League, Connacht and All Ireland medals.

Ballinamore Club Notes
All Ireland Final 18th of December 2023
It was fitting on Saturday night and again on Sunday in the pairc that so many people arrived to greet our ladies team, they are heroes to all our club mates and supporters and it was wonderful that they got a heroes welcome as they returned home.
It’s been a remarkable few weeks for little Ballinamore Séan O’Helins, a county championship followed by a Connacht title and a titanic semi final to earn a place in an All Ireland final. Ballinamore - All Ireland finalists wow.
Think back to March and if you had said a Ballinamore team would be walking out at Croke Pairc in an all Ireland final this weekend people would think you crazy, but thats what’s been achieved.
The players and their management team will be disappointed in not continuing this remarkable journey and coming home with an All Ireland, but as the dust settles we hope they reflect and understand what they have achieved in the last few weeks and months, a history making team.
To look around the Hogan stand on Saturday was a sight to behold with the huge crowd of supporters there for Ballinamore easily outnumbering everyone else.
Fans had travelled from all over the world, planes, trains, cars and Wrynns buses all to support this remarkable group of players.
There was not just Ballinamore fans there either supporting us, over the last few weeks the support we have received from our peers in Leitrim football and the wider LGFA and GAA family’s across the world has been remarkable and they all joined in to support us on the day with young and old from all manner of Leitrim clubs putting a side local rivalries to support a Leitrim team in Croke Pairc, we thank you all it’s truly humbling and shows what fine neighbours we have in Leitrim.
Saturday was a day that will live long in the memory for us, as the cries of up Ballinamore rang out around Croke Pairc it was surreal, meeting up with neighbour’s friends and relatives to cheer on this history making team will never be forgotten. Looking at Ballinamore fans young and old decked out in the colours, handshakes and hugs all around as we met up to cheer the girls on, there were tears as well at the end, not tears of sadness in defeat but in pride, love and respect for this team and for what they have achieved.
There have been many accolades for the team over the last few weeks and they deserve them all but the most fitting one is inspirational.
When they look back I hope they understand what they mean to the club both young and old. They have shown what can be done, when my eight year old daughter said I’ll play here one day as well, I thought yes you can this is what it’s all about inspiring the next generation, if one more girl decides to pull on a pair of football boots it’s worth it all, this is for the players that come after you the ones you have inspired to follow you.
One of the things people might not know is what these players do around the club many of them are our Cul Camp coaches , our nursery and our underage coaches they give their time freely to grow the game to inspire the young players to give them days out like this and we are so proud of them and thank them for what they do for us all.
As the players look back we hope they recall the expressions on the faces of the young and old in our community who watched your journey with tears of joy and pride and remember you are an All Ireland finalist, a Connacht winner, a County champion and heroes . Thank you for being an inspiring part of this most famous and remarkable chapter in Ballinamore Séan O’Helins' history.
Special thanks to all our supporters, sponsors, the local press, LGFA, GAA and everyone that had followed us on this remarkable journey we truly thank you all.

Ballinamore Club Notes 4th of December 2023
All Ireland Semi Final – A thank You.
A tremendous day for the club. Over the years the club has risen to many challenges on the field and off, but dare we say none as historic as this one. To reach an All-Ireland final is beyond believe a truly remarkable achievement for this team and for the club, achieving it in front of our own fans and on the new pitch adding to the occasion and surely putting this day at the top of the tree in our storied history.
What do you say about this team ? We saw it all on show in Sligo in the Connacht final, a day we thought could not be topped! , but topped it was. This team has a grit, determination and a never say die attitude, they don’t stop they don’t concede to defeat they keep going to the end and the goal epitomises what this team is about, they harried for each other kept on going and got their reward at the end and a place in an all-Ireland final for little old Ballinamore.
Whatever happens in Croker we are so proud of this team, they deserve the praise and thanks of our community because they are an integral part of it. The players at each game have been an inspiration to us all but most importantly to our young players and fans. The players over the season have helped at our Cul camps, the nursery, underage training, and presentations to our players they even took time after the win to help Santa with the Christmas lights, they are an integral and inspirational part of our club and town, this was a win for us all, to see the interaction on the pitch at full time would bring tears of joy to many. Parents that had followed these players from u12 and younger caught up in an unbelievable end to a game along with club stalwarts, players and fans of all ages who flooded the pitch.
It’s been a busy week getting ready for this occasion and we would like to thank everyone for helping prepare the pairc and the town for yesterday’s game as the saying should go it takes a parish to get to an All-Ireland final and we would like to thank you all.
As a club we thank the players for an unforgettable day. We also need to thank our community, our members, fans, and the wider Leitrim GAA family for their support. We also thank the visiting team Steelstown for a tremendous game of football, they are a magnificent club, and we wish them well.
So what next for these ladies ? , well it’s an All-Ireland final against Glanmire to be played in Croke Pairc on the 16th of December an occasion not be missed , I know we wont fill it but let’s give it a go and get as many fans up to support the team.
